Razz Poker is a popular poker variant favored by both newcomers and experienced gambling enthusiasts. Monetary Contribution
This is known as the Ante. It is mandatory, although the amount can be small. At the beginning of each round, the contribution to the Pot equals approximately 1/5 of the minimal bet.
Razz Poker Rules
Up to 8 poker players can participate. A standard 52-card poker deck, from 2 to Ace, is used.
Initially, when playing Razz at PokerMatch Casino, each player receives 7 poker cards. The lowest combination of 5 cards wins. The game Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo differs significantly from Razz, as Razz does not have the “8 or better” rule required to form a winning combination.
The game proceeds through distinct phases: formation of the pot, five betting rounds, and showdown. Each phase is detailed below.
Streets at the Card Table
Third Street begins with each player receiving 3 cards: 2 face-down and 1 face-up. The player holding the highest (weakest in Razz terms) card is required to put money into the pot. This amount is equal to half of the smaller bet. A player can also choose to contribute the full amount. If multiple players have equally weak cards, the next deposit is determined by suit ranking, ascending in order: clubs (lowest), diamonds, hearts, and spades (highest).
From Fourth Street through Sixth Street inclusive, each player receives one additional face-up card per round. The player with the best visible combination of two low cards initiates the betting. If players have identical rankings, priority goes to the player holding the higher-ranking suit.
If a pair appears among the face-up cards, it’s time for a double bet (doublebet). Bets can either remain small or become large, according to the stakes determined at the table. In subsequent betting rounds, the player with the strongest visible combination bets first. Bets in these rounds can escalate significantly, which is advantageous for the eventual winner.
Final Round
On the River, each player receives one more card face-down, hidden from opponents. The gamer who bet or raised the pot during Seventh Street is the first to reveal their hand. Others follow clockwise, and the pot is awarded to the player holding the best five-card low combination. Victory is determined by card rankings and suit seniority.
Razz differs from other poker variants due to the absence of a "qualifier." Therefore, only the player who assembles the strongest low combination is eligible to claim the prize, enhancing their bankroll.
